An additional crank clearance pocket was added to block casting for the Duramax 2017 L5P. Casting layouts at Defiance show that these area are all shy of stock. Further cutups reveal that the wall (crankcase to water jacket) is thin an found to be as low as 2.5mm thick. To eliminate thin wall condition, add 0.8mm process stock to all (8) location on the crank side of wall. This will affect A, B, C, & D cores. Change to tooling will require welding the fixed & tilt core box inserts for all (4) cores.
